Business website design
Who this is for
For a business that's already up and running and has something to show, but whose online presence doesn't match its real level. A service company, a manufacturer, a law or accounting firm, a studio, a consultant. People whose clients search on Google first, then read the website, and only then pick up the phone.
A business website doesn't sell directly the way an online store does. Its job is subtler — to convince people that you're serious, that you know what you're doing and that it's worth getting in touch. So it's measured by one number: how many enquiries it brings in each month.
Why most business websites don't work
The usual story is familiar. Someone buys a ready-made theme for a few dozen euros, adds a dozen plugins to make everything work, and the site goes live. Six months later it takes five seconds to load, breaks with every update and looks like a thousand other sites in the same industry.
The problem isn't the owner, it's the approach. A template is made to do everything for everyone — a gym, a lawyer, a construction company. So it carries code for features your website will never use, and every kilobyte of it loads on every visit.
The second problem is even more common and has nothing to do with technology. The website is full of sentences like “we offer high-quality solutions with a personal approach” that say nothing. Visitors learn neither what exactly you do nor why they should choose you. That's why the content structure comes first, before the design.
How I approach it
I start from a blank page and add only what your business actually uses. Less code means a faster website, fewer things that can break and easier maintenance years from now. On custom Next.js projects the result is 90+ on Google PageSpeed — not as a target to chase, but as a natural consequence of the approach.
We put the content together. You know your business; I know how people read a website. If you don't have content ready, I'll tell you what to prepare and how much of it — which removes the most common cause of delays.
What's included
Content structure
Before any design, we work out what visitors need to see and in what order. Most websites fail here, not in the visuals.
Custom design
No off-the-shelf themes. The design is made for your business and your audience, not picked from a catalogue.
Works on every device
More than half of your visitors will come from a phone. The mobile version isn't a shrunk-down desktop — it's thought through on its own.
An enquiry form that works
Short, with clear fields and a visible confirmation. And if the form ever breaks, your phone and email are in plain sight anyway.
Technical SEO
Clean URLs, proper headings, meta descriptions, a sitemap, robots.txt and structured data. The foundation your content needs to rank.
Visitor analytics
Google Analytics and Search Console set up and connected, so you can see where people come from and what they do on the site.
Next.js or WordPress
Both work for a business website, but not under the same conditions. If speed is critical, if you need non-standard functionality or if the website is going to grow, a custom Next.js website pays for itself quickly — there are no plugins to maintain, and hosting for smaller projects is often free.
If the budget is tighter, or if you'll edit lots of content every day in a familiar dashboard, lightweight WordPress without unnecessary plugins is the sensible choice. I also maintain existing WordPress sites, including ones I didn't build.
Which one you need is decided on the first call — based on your budget, your needs and how much you want to manage the website yourself. If the cheaper option does the job, I'll tell you.
How it works
- 01
Call and brief
Who your clients are, what sets you apart, what visitors should do. Free and with no obligation.
- 02
Quote and contract
A written scope, timeline and price. Work starts after you agree in writing. No deposit for the work.
- 03
Structure and design
First we organise the pages and content, then the look. You approve the design before a line of code is written.
- 04
Development
You follow a live working version the whole way through. Feedback goes in as we go, not at the end.
- 05
Testing and launch
Speed, mobile version, forms, SEO settings. We launch the website and I show you how to manage it.
Pay after it's done
No deposit for the work. Only the domain, hosting and licences are paid upfront, if the project needs them.
6 months of support
For half a year after handover I fix problems and make small changes with no extra invoice.
The code is yours
The code, design, domain and logins are yours from the day of handover.
Frequently asked questions
- How long does it take to build a business website?
- It depends on the number of pages and whether the content is ready. The longest part is usually not the code but gathering the text and photos. The exact timeline goes into the contract before I start.
- How much does a business website cost?
- A business website with up to 8 pages starts from €300. The exact price depends on the scope — the number of pages, whether the design is completely new and which integrations you need. After a short free call you get a concrete quote with a fixed scope and timeline.
- Do I have to pay upfront?
- Not for the work. You pay once the website is finished and you've approved it. Only the domain, hosting and licences are paid upfront, if the project needs them.
- Can I change the text and photos myself?
- Yes. An admin panel for your content is part of the “Website with admin panel or bookings” package (from €490), and I show you how to use it at handover. If you'd rather not deal with it, small changes are covered by the six months of free support.
- What if I already have a website?
- Then we're talking about a redesign rather than a new website. I review the current one, decide what's worth keeping and move the content over so you don't lose your Google rankings.
- Will my website rank first on Google?
- I won't promise you that. I build the website to be technically right — fast, clean, properly marked up and well structured. That's the foundation. Where you actually rank also depends on your content and the competition in your niche.
