Test your website speed

The Google PageSpeed Insights result — explained in plain English. See how fast your website is on a phone and what slows it down the most.
Device

The test runs on Google PageSpeed Insights and takes about 20–40 seconds. It measures the way Google does: on a phone, over a slower mobile connection.

What the score means

90–100

Fast

The website loads quickly, even on a phone. From here on, the difference comes from the content and how easily people reach the enquiry.

50–89

Room for improvement

The most common result. The usual culprits are heavy images, unnecessary scripts and plugins. Two or three fixes often make the biggest difference.

0–49

Slow

Some visitors close the page before they see it. That costs you clients, and Google takes speed into account in its rankings.

Google judges speed by three metrics: LCP (how fast the main content appears), INP (how quickly the page responds to a tap or click) and CLS (how much the layout jumps around while loading). The test above shows all three, along with what to fix first.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the score lower on a phone than on a desktop?
The phone test simulates an average smartphone on a slower mobile connection. That's how Google assesses websites — and most of your visitors really do come from phones. So look at the mobile score first.
Why is the score slightly different every time?
The test depends on server load at that moment, on the network and on the ads or scripts that load. A difference of a few points is normal. For a more accurate picture, run the test 2–3 times.
What are the “real visitors” in the result?
If your website gets enough traffic, Google shows data from real Chrome visits over the last 28 days. That's what goes into Google's assessment (Core Web Vitals). Small websites often don't have this data — then you only see the lab test.
Does it have to be 100 out of 100?
No. 100 is reachable in lab conditions, but a real website with photos, maps and analytics rarely holds it. 90+ is an excellent score. What matters more is that the website feels fast to someone in a hurry.
Do you store the address I test?
No. The test goes straight from your browser to Google PageSpeed Insights. I only see the address if you send it to me yourself for the free audit.

The number is just the start

The test tells you how fast your website is, but not why it isn't bringing in enquiries. In a free audit I look at both and tell you where to start.
